Gender equality promotion

Human Rights Institute in partnership with the Norwegian organisation KUN – Center for equality and diversity (www.kun.no) is a successful applicant for project support from the Norway Grants scheme in Slovakia. Within the framework of the Domestic and gender-based violence scheme, it organises the project „Promoting Gender Equality“.

If gender equality is to be successful, it must be supported by society as a whole and efforts must be vested into shaping and educating the public towards its sensitisation. The project fills this gap and responds to the reaction of various extremist groups in Slovakia that successfully denigrate the concept of gender equality in public discourse. The project specifically aims to raise awareness of what gender equality is, why it is important in terms of justice, human rights and freedom, and that it is empowering for society and promotes freedom of choice for both genders, men and women.

It is necessary to counter the spread of the conspiracy of the so-called ‚gender ideology‘ so that it is not the only voice resonating in society. It is important to educate to the contrary and to denounce these attempts to denigrate gender equality.

We aim to achieve this through 4 sets of activities:

  • A two-stage small online campaign based on an analysis of available toxic content, exposing the main „counter-arguments“ and publishing them in the form of an online infographic that links raising awareness of gender equality with the growing awareness of fake news. The second step will be to launch an Instagram campaign for young people and young adults to reflect on the prejudices they have felt and recognised in their lives.
  • online campaign consisting of a series of video-explainers on different topics clarifying gender equality for social media (YouTube, Facebook, Instagram), targeting young people up to 35 years of age
  • a series of educational workshops on gender equality in high schools, with a particular focus on schools with a high percentage of Roma pupils
  • transfer of know-how from Norway with experienced gender equality experts in the form of expert conferences and input into campaign and educational materials
